Although the bulk of my snapping is now done with a Nikon D810 I still occasionally use my Sony NEX-5N when working outdoors or when I’m feeling adventurous indoors under tricky lighting conditions. The results tend to be more miss than hit, probably because I don’t pay enough attention to the settings, I still find the controls on a single lens reflex type of camera easier to use. Here are a selection of passable shots plucked from a large number of candidates for the dustbin.
Not since the long gone days of the camera clubs have I discussed the ups and downs of my adventures with other photographers but recently I’ve felt the need to discover if it’s just me having problems finding suitable talent. If you follow the modelling web site forums everything seems to be hunky-dory so is it only me who’s cursed? Nowadays many girls want to pick and choose how they are portrayed, which is okay to a point, but some of the photos on their portfolios are a long way from being art and surely it’s the tacky glamour scene where the money is, what little there is left in internet modelling that is. So if you are a fellow “artist” I really would like to know how you are fairing in your quest for models.
A none too subtle set of snaps of another of my favourite models. One more of the still waters run deep clan. Technical information? You must be joking but I think this is pre expensive standard zoom lens era so probably shot with a kit zoom. If the girl is beautiful enough who’s looking at the sharpness of the lens! Lighting looks like my typical couple of studio lights with white brollies.
Two contrasting attempts at balancing natural window light and flash. A recent set, which in my humble opinion looks pretty good if you ignore the slight greenish cast caused by the sunlight filtering through the shrubbery, followed by a feeble early effort where the composition is sloppy and the flash is overcooked.
I’ve just finished my third shoot of the year. Once again the model was not new to the Chateau de Vaughan but she was sporting a slightly different look to when I first snapped her so I’m quite pleased with the results. I’ve also been playing email tennis with two very pretty models who have yet to travel to Rugby so I’m feeling kind of upbeat about my chances of new faces. We will see Mister Big Ears, we will see.
